Chris Higgins was born in Montreal. He has lived in Oakville, Winnipeg, Halifax and Toronto, which has been his home since the 1980s. After earning a BA in English Literature at McGill University, Chris spent two years as an advertising copywriter. This helped him develop as a writer, and also began his journey with technology, which has been a major pillar of his career. In 1991, he completed a B. Ed. and launched a 29-year career in teaching, adding a Masters in English in 1995. Moving to Swansea Public School in 2003, Chris was quickly drawn to the history of the building, and felt right at home in the community. There he spent 17 wonderful years as part of an ever-growing, dynamic staff, delivering student-centred programming, coaching teams, hosting poetry slams, running a media club, leading middle schoolers to produce award-winning films, creating one of the first elementary school podcasts in Toronto, and loving his work with students, colleagues and parents. When he retired in 2020, Chris wrote a book about the history of Swansea Public School. Chris considers himself blessed to be part of a close family – including his mother Peggy, his four siblings, his beautiful wife Sue and four amazing kids. Until recently, Chris volunteered with Heritage York, a historic group in his neighbourhood that is based at Lambton House.
